Damn, I can’t tell if that C-5 is one of ours. It might be, stripe color is right.

I used to see C-5s flying in and out of NAS JRB Willow Grove on at least a weekly basis. Not the noisiest planes, but during initial climb they produce a hideous scream like they’re about to rip the earth open. Crazy huge beasts.

I would see C-17s where I was since they can land in the types of places I was...

I watched about 8 C-130s fly over my apartment at low altitude, it was so freaking cool. Can’t imagine what a C-5 would look like.

The ones I saw were at an air national guard base in Guernsey Wyoming.

Oh yeah, I’ve been up 25 from CO a few times. Travis AFB out by Sacramento has C5s, if you drive to Lake Tahoe you sometimes see them.

We get the Coast Guard ones here. Last year I saw a B-52 fly north of me, right off my deck I was like, wtf, unmistakable profile on that plane, pretty weird to be around here near SF.

C-17s are a pretty fun ride in a combat zone as well.

Wasn’t a fan of wearing full kit on the flight in. Woke up with a stiff neck from my damn ACH and not knowing the C-17's troop seats are adjustable.

It’s pretty uncomfortable wearing all that crap in some aircraft. I was at Manas a lot, I switched to the DIA at the end and we had better planes.

The air base five miles from my house (and across the street from my job) has C-5's, and they’re in the air a good 3-4 days a week (and have been all my life). One of my earliest memories was going to the little beach in a state park next to the base. Every now and then one would fly directly over at low altitude and momentarily shade the entire beach. It was my favorite part of going there.

Watching one take off just looks unnatural. I imagine it’s a similar feeling to when people saw the Wright Brother’s fly for the first time.

A C5 did the flyover at Laguna Seca for ALMS some years back, it must have been at damn near stall speed in a low bank, I thought it was going to fall out of the sky before they firewalled it and climbed out. Damn impressive.

The Air Force does C-5 training at Lackland here in San Antonio, so they are in the sky CONSTANTLY. Here are a few phone photos I took back in November of one flying over my neighbor’s house. You never really quite get used to them. They are so huge and ungainly that even when they are up fairly high they look like they are about to drop out of the sky. I work close to the base under the landing path and I feel like they are about to just land on IH-410 during rush hour, but they are probably still 1,000 ft. up.

There was once a B-2 that flew at very low altitude probably 500 feet. It was just like a giant black bat. It was probably the coolest thing I have ever seen.

I’ve seen B-2s flying before, they’re just so unnatural looking. Like a kite without lines.
